Print Production

It's been great learning about print processes because I hadn't considered how certain methods of printing were used on different stocks before, not did I realize the technicalities involved with each method.

Lithography:
6000 copies per hour
Water is used in the process
General printing
Magazines, newspapers, posters

Grauvre:
No less thank 1 million copies per hour
No water is used in the process
Jagged edges- squares
Packaging, wallpaper, gift wrapping
E.g. the Big Issue

Flexo/Letterpress:
Process can print onto any material, absorbent or non absorbent
Prints from rubber or plastic plates
Ghostly Edges
Crisp packets, lastic bags, milk cartons, disposable cups, and candy bar wrappers.
Flexography printing may also be used for envelopes, labels, and newspapers.
Labels use letterpress for fine detail and screen for base/ background.
